SOO BURNELL

Soo Burnell draws deep inspiration from architecture and the stillness found within public spaces. Born and raised in Edinburgh, she began her acclaimed Poolside series after revisiting Glenogle Baths—a childhood swimming pool—sparking a fascination with the quiet elegance of historic pools. Since then, she has captured striking aquatic spaces across the UK, including London’s Zaha Hadid-designed Aquatics Centre, and across Europe and Japan, where her recent series At The Onsen explored traditional bathhouses. Her work reflects a delicate balance between structure and serenity, often evoking nostalgia through meticulously composed imagery.

Soo’s broader body of work continues to celebrate iconic architecture and cultural landmarks. From her I Am Home series documenting the grandeur of Edinburgh’s museums and streets, to Night at the Movies, which pays homage to historic cinemas in Edinburgh and London, she captures both the physical beauty and emotional resonance of these spaces. Her most recent project, The Plesman Collection, is an ode to The Hague, blending modern design with coastal charm. Soo's photography has been exhibited internationally and is represented by galleries worldwide. Her first book, To the Water, was released in 2021, with a second edition forthcoming.
